Maritime Training (Plymouth)
Introduction | How NVQ's Work

Welcome

Plymouth has long been associated with seafarers, from the early explorers, through centuries of world-wide trade, and an ever-present base for the Royal Navy. In an ever - changing environment of technology, innovation and legislation, training of future sea-going personnel for the Merchant Navy, fishing industry, small commercial vessels and the marine leisure industry is essential in ensuring safety and efficiency of crews and vessels, and the preservation of cargoes and the environment.

Formed in 1994, the mission statement of Maritime Training (Plymouth) Ltd. is:
  • To deliver high quality training through a prospectus of accredited courses, both in college and in the workplace, where appropriate
  • To provide, where possible, the latest simulation and other training equipment, relevant to each course.
  • To place the needs of candidates and their employers above other considerations
  • To provide full support for candidates during the sea-going phases of their training
  • To research and develop training courses to meet the changing needs of clients within the marine industry
The centre has a training agreement with City College Plymouth and Cornwall College, the Seafish Industry Authority (Western Training) and also works with the University of Plymouth. Courses are accredited by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, Merchant Navy Training Board, Edexcel Foundation (NVQ’s) and the Nautical Institute.

The purpose of this booklet is to give an overview of our course prospectus and career paths within the marine industry. Further details may be obtained by giving us a call, email, or by visiting us at any time.

We spend a great deal of time visiting our client employers, arranging programmes and meeting candidates in the workplace, where possible. If this is of interest, please call to arrange a meeting.

All of our teaching staff are fully qualified and industry experienced. They look forward to delivering packages to meet your needs, on a company and individual basis.
